Arts and Aging Program

Introducing our Arts and Aging program- new in 2018!

The Warehouse is happy to announce its new program for the Northwoods community, our Arts and Aging Program.

Inspired by the work of Anne Basting (Ph.D.), Professor of Theatre at the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, The Warehouse will be building our curriculum using her TimeSlips methodology as the basis for our arts experiences which meet the individuals where they are- at assisted living facilities around the Northwoods.

Ms. Basting won a McArthur Genius Fellowship in 2016 for her groundbreaking work in using theater, storytelling, and other art modalities to develop an alternative concept of aging, one that focuses on its possibilities as well as its challenges and views sustained emotional connections as critical to our well-being as we age. TinSlips is employed in museums, community centers, and assisted living facilities around the country. Although this method is designed for those dealing with forms of memory loss and dementia, we will potentially augment this class structure to include others who are in this age group and/or may endure other health impairments when possible.

In The Warehouse's Arts and Aging program, we will be visiting assisted living facilities in Vilas, Oneida, Forest, and other surrounding Counties- bringing the artistic experience to those who could use this moment of joy in their every day life.

Our first sessions begin March of 2018. Please stay tuned for more information as we develop and refine our skills- which can benefit so many in our community.

This program is supported by the Kohler Foundation, The Northwoods United Way, and St. Matthias Church in Minocqua.
