Johanna Buwalda Featured in Inaugural Warehouse Artist Spotlight Exhibition
May kicked off monthly Artist Spotlight Exhibitions in the Warehouse Community Arts Center’s newly renovated Artisan Gift Gallery. Artist Spotlight Exhibitions bring recognition and exposure to rising and established artists selected to share their stories, creative efforts, and inspirations surrounding being an artist in the Northwoods.
May’s Artist Spotlight shines on Johanna Buwalda, an established artist whose creative efforts include making, selling, and teaching. Born and raised in the Netherlands, she has lived in various countries, and in 2018, settled in our beautiful Northwoods. With Master’s degrees in Education and Psychology, she is licensed to practice clinical counseling in Illinois and Wisconsin and has worked as a trauma therapist for over 30 years.
Her medium of choice is ceramics. Her functional handmade pottery is mostly wheel thrown and decorated with colorful intricate line patterns and paintings that reflect her European heritage and the forest she lives and works in. As a Warehouse instructor, she teaches one-day beginning wheel boot camp, multiple level studio pottery classes, and weekly clay classes. She also teaches in the Arts & Aging and Youth programs. Her home studio is located along the Wisconsin River, just west of Eagle River. You can find Johanna and her pottery at many art fairs in the region.
The community is invited to attend her Artist Spotlight Reception at the Warehouse on Friday, May 12, from 5:30 – 7pm. Inspiration Bar will be open.
If you are looking for a unique gift, or a one-of-a kind treasure, the Artisan Gift Gallery at the Warehouse has everything you are looking for. The gallery features a continuously changing selection of handmade works by 25+ local and regional artists. Choose from an elegant selection of fine art and crafts including on-of-a-kind jewelry, pottery, and artwork of all media. Proceeds from the gallery support both the local artist and the programs at the Warehouse Community Arts Center.
The Warehouse is home of the greatest variety of creative experiences in the Northwoods, created by artists, for the artist in everyone!
