“Our 2024 program, Hearing Our Northwoods, aims to expand and deepen the connections established over the last three summers. This project aims to employ the arts to help us learn to listen more carefully so we may better hear all our Northwoods has and needs to say. Our goal is to provoke diverse conversation surrounding the question, what does it mean to listen in our Northwoods? This project provides a variety of lenses to guide participants to listen more deeply and in many different ways.”
Tuesdays July 9, 16, 23, 30 and Aug 6, 13
w/ Kathy Holperin, certified facilitator of the Journal to the Self® methods
2:30-4:30pm
$25 for all six weeks, plus a onetime workbook fee**
“Hearing Our Own Hearts in the Northwoods” is a 6-week program based on 18 of the methods of expressive writing outlined in the book Journal to the Self by Kathleen Adams. Learning new and different ways to write in your journal adds color, perspective, and dimension to your reflective writing. Whether you’ve been journaling for years or just thought you’d like to try journaling, this class is for you.
**There is a $10 materials fee if you choose to journal on your laptop using an electronic workbook and a $25 materials fee if you’d prefer a hardcopy workbook. This will be paid directly to Kathy on the first day, cash please.
Your facilitator, Kathy Holperin, has over 25 years of journaling experience and wants to share with others the benefits of using the various techniques. Because of Kathy’s great passion for journaling, she opted to become a certified facilitator of the Journal to the Self® methods through the Center for Journal Therapy. Expressive writing techniques have helped her in her relationships, given her clarity on next steps in her work life and are a great tool as she pursues writing her memoir. Kathy has lived in Eagle River for most of her life. She dabbles in a wide variety of hobbies and activities such as writing, photography, knitting, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, and traveling with her husband, Mark. They especially enjoy visiting their awesome adult children and their families.
This class is supported in part by a Creative Communities grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
