Need something to do on a rainy summer day? Come on in with your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews or any youngster you’d like to share some art time with!  Artist Ryan Doberstien will teach new techniques each week, so feel free to come for more than one!  This series is drop-in, so no registration is required.

July 9th: Mixed Media Campfire Collage

Capture the memories of Summer nights spent by the campfire roasting s;mores and sharing stories, by created mixed media campfires of your own. Participants will draw, paint, and paper collage with step-by-step instructions to make dynamic images of bonfires.

July 16th: Wearable Art: Time Glasses

Summer is a time of sunshine and rainbows. Participants will learn about Isaac Newton, light and its properties, lenses and prisms, and various designs of eyeglasses, before using fancy papers to craft their own wearable, customized diffraction eyewear.

July 23rd: Soap Camera Sculptures

Capturing memories in photographs is another Summer pastime. Participants will sculpt soap into camera shapes and embellish using found household objects and paint.

July 30: Paper Marbling and Drawing

Participants will learn about the history and process of paper marbling and get hands-on experience with step-by-step instructions to make their own colorful papers.

August 6th: DVD Movie/Video Game Case Design and Thaumatropes

Blockbuster movies are a Summer tradition. Participants will imagine their own movies (or video games) and use various drawing tools to design covers for real DVD cases. Participants will also learn about entertainment before the motion picture, and make their own thaumatropes, which combine images with motion to create a little magic.

August 13th: Shadow Puppets and Drawing Games

Perform a Midsummer Nights Dream with shadow puppets crafted from paper, drawing materials, and fancy papers.

Cost is $20 per adult with one child, and $5 for each additional child.  Payment can be made at the door by cash, check or credit card.
