This session of After School Art will explore printmaking!

April 26: Prints with Paper Pulp with Debra Ketchum Jircik

Using ready-made stencils and “silk screens”, students will make prints with colored paper pulp that become a sheet of paper.

May 3: Four Panel Story Prints with Ryan Doberstein

Using sequential art, such as comic books and graphic novels as a guide, students will use styrofoam sheets and ballpoint pens to produce a background plate and numerous smaller character and object plates, which will then be printed on one large sheet to tell a story in four panels.

May 10: Found Object Gyotaku Collagraphs with Ryan Doberstein

Inspired by Gyotaku, the Japanese tradition of printing fish, students will use paper board and various found objects to create plates in the form of sea creatures and print them on paper.

May 17: Creative Printing with Cathy Calvetti

Students will create a variety of prints by making their own printing tools from common objects such as plastic cutting boards and plastic bags. Students will explore:

  • Creating unique effects through relief printing
  • Working with positive and negative lines
  • Understanding and using printing terms
  • Making more than one print from a single printing plate

May 24: Piano Hinge Book with Cathy Calvetti

Students will create a Piano Hinge book using their prints from the previous week.

Cost is $75 (includes all materials, snacks, and transportation)
