Pastel Painting
April 21, 2018
9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Instructor Andrea Fenner will present an introduction to pastel on suede matboard techniques. You can use your own personal photo of a landscape with water as the subject or one of Andrea’s if you do not have a photo. Andrea will work with participants of any level to improve their skills. This class is appropriate for 7th graders – adults.
The instructor prefers to work with hard pastels (Nupastel) but soft pastels can also be used. The Warehouse has Nupastel hard pastels available to use for an extra fee of $5 payable the day of the class. Lunch Break- pack a lunch or enjoy lunch around town!
Please see the complete list of supplies and class description from Andy below:
What to bring:
1) A suede mat board of a standard size
8×10 for a 5×7 image
11×14 for a 8×10 image or
16×20 for an 11×14 image
You can find this at most framing shops for a nominal fee. Any color of mat board will work but lighter colors make the project much easier. I will bring some extra canvases for students to purchase if they cannot find them elsewhere.
2) Hard or soft pastels.
I prefer hard pastels but soft ones work as well. You can bring pastel pencils to help with details. The Warehouse has Nupastels available for a $5 fee. Do not bring oil pastels.
3) A favorite photo of a landscape water scene that you would like to transpose into a pastel painting.
The emphasis here is to paint from a photo, not a picture that you have found in a magazine or calendar. I will bring my library of photos that you are free to borrow from.
